More than 100 million of people in Europe are carers

Integrating e-learning components for carers under a unified platform

The Discover platform and proposed delivery model addresses the current lack of digital skills of carers both informal and formal and absence of training in this area which is seen as significant to increasing not only carers long term health and well being but also of those that they care for. It also provides a unique signposting platform for public authorities and care providers nationally and across Europe.

Already over a 100 million people in Europe care for a family member, relative or friend. This coupled with a high ageing rate; increasing population with disabilities and long term illness; financial restraints within the public sector on care provision and the drive to self care and independent living, will all impact on carers who will have more demands placed upon them as well as being required to undertake increasingly complex tasks.

Discover will develop new digital skills training content, based on the needs of carers and will use the most appropriate technology to reach the carers. This will centre around the Discover platform which will be the European point of call for care and training providers regarding digital skills training. It will implement 4 testbeds in Birmingham, The Netherlands, Thessalonica and Zamora/ Valladolid. The test beds will use the Discover platform to provide training to carers. All learning content will be produced initially in the 4 national languages: Dutch, English, Greek and Spanish with signposting to national care training providers and certification providers. It will integrate with the existing local solutions, which will become the local entry points.
